The Year of Preparation
2021 will mark 5o years since the country was founded as a federation, a time of great celebration and remembrance that showcases how far the region has progressed. There is so much to look forward to in the coming year, which has been declared as “2020: Towards the next 50.“
The UAE will showcase the region to the world during the upcoming Expo 2020 in Dubai. Expo 2020 is a festival where people from all over the world come together and connect, using the festival as a platform to share ideas, learn and innovate. It’s also a place where you can come and have fun!
2020 is predicted to be one of the biggest and the most exciting year for The Middle East as we’re expecting billions of dollars to be invested across technology in the region. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was recently quoted as saying, “The country will work on making giants leaps in our economy, education, infrastructure, health, and media to share the UAE’s new story with the world”. Together, we will build the Emirates of the future in 2020 with the winning spirit of the union, a spirit that strives for progress. Our development journey has no end.”
The Digital Era of Interviewing
Here at CloudStream Global we like to stay on top of all things cutting-edge, and rumour has it that the Candidate has won the Talent-War. Therefore, our processes are focussed on being candidate centric. On that note, one of the most important parts of your job-finding process is having a great interview. Gone is the era of squeezing into your Dad’s old and dusty wedding suit to wear to your first (or second) interview. We are living in an iterative world, where most interviews are now conducted via remote video platforms such as Skype or Zoom. The CloudStream Middle East team work mainly with clients who conduct their interviews via video platforms, as 90% of the workforce consists of expats from all over the world. What is shocking is the amount of times these interviews can go south, because candidates are not prepared for this type of interview.
So, without further ado, here are some tips to prepare for a remote/video interview:
#1 Triple check your interview time.
A lot of these video interviews happen across time zones, so you want to ensure that you have the correct time. Whether you’ve scheduled the interview with the employer directly, or with a recruiter – ALWAYS double check your time.
#2 Confirm and Download the correct software
Make sure that you have downloaded the correct software at least a day before your interview. This ensures that you can check for any technical issues, as well as that you have the correct software downloaded. Even go as far as doing a test call with a friend or family member (and your recruiter) Being prepared sets you up for success.
